Weird and Easy Way to Get Fit

I think we are all trying to get fit, but it’s not always the easiest thing to do, especially if you are a bit of a couch potato like me.  But there ARE ways to get fit, at least a little more fit that are easy, cost nothing, and don’t require a lot of sweating.

I’ve struggled with my weight my whole life, so I’ve tried it all – gyms, treadmills, Jazzercise, dog walking, aerobic step workouts, weights, you name it.  But I could never find the time or the motivation to keep up with any of them for long.  Until I remembered a kind of weird tip from my mother.

I have a weird and simple fitness tip I learned from my Mom.

I know there are some people who can manage the discipline needed to keep up with an exercise program.  But there are plenty of us who can’t.  So, I’ve learned if you’re going to keep a fitness program going, you need to keep it simple, simple, simple.  And that’s what she did.

If you want to keep an exercise program going, keep it SIMPLE.

In her later years, she got into the habit of just walking around the house.  Very simple, just walking – around and around.  No equipment required, she didn’t have to change clothes, she didn’t have to get in the car.  If it was too hot or cold outside, she didn’t even have to leave the house.

I’ve started to do it now too.  I’m busy.  I need to get myself to work in the mornings.  Then when I get home, I’ve got stuff to do too.  I manage my blog, I have clients I do Pinterest work for, and I have Scout stuff too.  Not to mention make dinner, clean up the house a bit, and spend time with my family.  I would rarely have time get to a gym or do a major exercise program.  But I do manage to find a few minutes to just walk around my house in my pajamas.  That’s easy, and it’s just as much exercise as walking around the neighborhood.

This is ideal for:

  • Moms with young children
  • Older folks
  • Folks who work at home
  • People recovering from surgery or an injury
  • Overweight people who need an easy way to get started exercising

Fortunately, my house is laid out so I have a circular path between my living room and my back hallway.  But otherwise, I could just pick a path through my house.  Back and forth, or up and down the stairs.  That’s the beauty of it – it’s infinitely flexible.  It doesn’t matter if it’s raining or snowing, or hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk.  I can get a mile’s worth of steps in about 12 minutes.  I can even jog if I’m feeling frisky.  Sometimes, I’ll slip in a few rounds while I’ve got something cooking in the microwave.  Hey, steps are steps.  Give it a try.
