6 Secrets to Become a Morning Person and LOVE It

The world seems to be broken into two types of people – the morning person and the night owl.  I am decidedly in the night owl camp, but this is the real world.  I have a job that requires me to function as somewhat of a morning person – if I want to receive a paycheck.  Unfair, but true.

Not all of us were made to jump out of bed chipper and excited to start the workday grind.  This isn’t the movies, its LIFE and like most people, I WANT to sleep!  But if you listen to the Rolling Stones, you’ll know that you can’t always get what you want….

Becoming a morning person is EASY with these helpful tips.

If you despise the sound of the alarm clock, then you are in the right place. I’m going to help you out by sharing a few tips that’ll change up your morning routine so you’re able to find just enough motivation to jump start your day.

No more dragging your feet in the morning! Instead you can wake up raring to go and ready to tackle the day, maybe even with a smile on your face.  Well, OK maybe that’s stretching it, but at least you’ll be a little less zombie-fied.

Before we get into the details, please remember: Converting to a morning person takes time.  New habits take time to form and you need to stay consistent to truly make a change. Now that you’re ready, here it goes;

Prep the night before

Shorten the morning to-do list and take care of some of the chores the night before. Pre-make breakfasts and lunches, decide what you’re going to wear and lay out clothes for you and the kids.  Pack gym bags, backpacks or briefcases and put by the door.

It’s not very motivating to wake up in the morning with a to-do list of boring chores.  Instead, use those precious morning minutes for more useful activities.

Avoid the snooze

Trust me, I completely understand how tempting this is but it’s a big no-no. You’ll never hit morning person status this way.

Scientists have studied this for decades.  They’ve proven time and again that when you doze off for that second time the sleep cycle starts all over again.  Because you aren’t able to hit that deep sleep before the alarm goes off yet again, you just wake up feeling groggier.

You’ve got to break your snooze habit.  It helps to put your alarm across the room.  If you have to get up to shut it off, then nature will likely send you into the bathroom.  At that point, you may as well just make the bed and get your morning started.  Hey, it works for the “actual” morning person.  You don’t see them lolling around in bed.

Ditch the devices

This is probably the MOST important tip – but I get that it’s hard to stick with.  Starting your morning off by digging into Email, watching a morning TV show, or even listening to a radio news show can really derail your morning.

It can also tank your whole mood for the day, if you see or hear any bad news.  Those messages and social media updates have waited all night long.  Waiting until a mid-morning break isn’t going to make a big difference.  And it gives you a little headstart time to focus on YOU before you let the world in.

Move your body

Anything you can do in the morning to get your blood pumping will increase your energy levels. Exercise first thing in the AM if you’re able; if not, stretching will do.

If you make it a point to get your body moving first thing, not only will you experience a spike in energy and motivation, you’ll reap some amazing health benefits. You’ve heard what they say about a body in motion….

Take showers in the morning

Planning your showers for the morning is ideal if you’re looking for a much-needed pick-me-up. A shower in the early morning can soothe morning stiffness, invigorate the body and mind and leave you feeling refreshed and ready to conquer the day ahead. Showers are a great way to hydrate and rejuvenate and get the day off to a great start.

Adopt a habit of morning self-care

Mornings are a great opportunity to take some time for yourself.  Spend it doing something that you enjoy or that will benefit your overall well-being. Meditation, journaling, reading, prayer or studying are popular choices.

Ask yourself what’s that one thing you could do for yourself that you aren’t, and then do that. Over time you’ll start to look forward to the ‘me’ time and it will become motivation that will drag you out of that bed.

Becoming a morning person is EASY with these simple tips.

Conclusion

If you’re lacking much needed morning motivation I hope you take these suggestions to heart. A little effort, a lot of commitment.  And before you know it you’ll be a morning person in no time.

No more faking it for the rest of the world, instead you’ll use mornings to fuel your energy and ignite the motivation you needed to take on the world.

What are your best tips for an ENERGIZING MORNING?  Well, besides that much-needed coffee infusion…
